ANST Member Highlight:

Catherine is a fifth year graduate student at University of Florida. While balancing clinical responsibilities, Catherine demonstrates a strong dedication to neuropsychological research. Since the beginning of this year, she co-authored 6 published peer-reviewed manuscripts, including 3 as first-author. She currently has an additional first-author manuscript under review. Catherine also presented her work at the annual meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS), the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), and presented preliminary findings from her dissertation at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC). Her research focuses on better understanding vulnerabilities to post-operative cognitive change in older adults, and cognitive phenotypes of Parkinson’s disease using digital assessments.

Why is it important for your institution/graduate program to have an ANST interest group:
To support the students who are interested in neuropsychology by creating a sense of community among each other and most importantly provide a space for us to continue to grow and learn more about the neuropsychology field.
Past interest group initiatives/programming:
We do a community service event every trimester. In the past we have written letters to individuals with Alzheimer’s who are in a memory care facility, we hosted a NEURObingo event to raise money for the BIAA, and raised money for the Congenital Heart Walk at the Philadelphia Zoo. Additionally, we invite neuropsychologists from the community to do case presentations and other lectures such as board certification for our groups. We also do student case presentations and article discussions.
Planned future interest group initiatives/programming in the upcoming year:
We plan to do an article discussion on the neurological effects of COVID19 & have more case presentations and lectures from students and neuropsychologists.
General research and clinical interests of group members:
forensic neuropsychology, dementia, pediatrics, trauma
If you are interested in collaborating, please contact student representatives Anastasia Skliros (as8240@pcom.edu) and Morgan Bare (mb0207@pcom.edu). You can also find their interest group on Instagram.

The Pennsylvania State University
Why is it important for your institution/graduate program to have an ANST interest group:
Our ANST interest group helps us to foster a sense of community for our trainees interested in pursuing careers in neuropsychology. This is true at all levels, from undergraduate students through our graduate students. It is a space for us to discuss our shared interest in brain-behavior relationships and seek and provide advice and guidance about the next steps in our careers.
Past and future interest group initiatives/programming:
Past programming includes an Internship Panel to discuss preparing and applying to internship, Robin’s Wish Documentary screening and discussion about Lewy Body, Alumni Networking and Professional Developmental Panel. Upcoming programming includes Journal Club prior to a Neuroscience Seminar Speaker (Dr. Tracey Covassin), community initiative including an MS walk, and co-sponsored event with other ANST interest groups on preparing and applying to internship.
General research and clinical interests of group members:
TBI (the spectrum from concussion and mTBI through more moderate to severe), aging with brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and secondary factors that influence cognition (mood, sleep, pain).
