Please Add Any Additional Information to Include in Your Listing	DIDACTICS: UAB offers elective coursework in neuropsychology including Functional Neuroanatomy, Introduction to Neuropsychology, Neuropsychological Assessment, and Behavioral Neuroscience, Additional elective courses are also routinely offered in Neuroimaging. There are also many extra-curricular didactics which students may attend, including: UAB Grand Rounds in the Departments of Neurology, Psychiatry, Geriatric Medicine, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Neuropsychology students also enjoy attending weekly Neuropsychology Case Conference, the weekly Birmingham VA/GRECC Aging Conference, UAB Neuroimaging Journal Club, UAB Neuropsychology Journal Club, and the weekly UAB Brain Pathology Conference. RESEARCH: UAB offers a plethora of research opportunities in the area of neuropsychology. UAB is part of the Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems. UAB is also designated as a national center of excellence for multiple specialties including geriatric medicine and developmental disabilities, among others. Faculty here are performing research in the areas of mild cognitive impairment and dementia, epilepsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury, chronic pain, pediatric neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and neurorehabilitation. CLINICAL: UAB students completed a range of practica at UAB University Hospital and the Birmingham VA medical center. Additional training sites include several local private neuropsychology practices. Training experiences include inpatient and outpatient sites in areas such as brain injury, sports concussion, spinal cord injury, pediatric neuropsychology, behavioral neurology (dementia, movement disorders, epilepsy), medical neuropsychology, and transplant evaluations. This is in addition to general clinical opportunities (psychotherapy, inpatient psychiatric, VA mental health and PTSD clinics, among others) and behavioral medicine (primary care, palliative care, sleep, weight management, chronic pain). Also located in Birmingham are the Children's Hospital of Alabama and the Sparks Clinic, both of which are well-known for the assessment and treatment of childhood medical, psychiatric, developmental, and behavioral disorders. ADDITIONAL: UAB students enjoy a number of leadership and community opportunities. They are frequently involved with local organizations such as the Alabama Head Injury Foundation, Alabama Head Injury Task Force, and the Alzheimer's Association of Alabama. UAB also has an active chapter of the Division 40 trainee organization, Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST).
